Product Designer
Remote or Hybrid · Sydney (Contract)
We're looking for a talented product designer to join our team.
About the role
- This is a contractual Mid Product Designer role, open to remote candidates or a hybrid setup from our Sydney studio.
- Design at UntilNow is AI augmented and outcome driven. You'll use AI tools as a natural part of your workflow, from early problem framing and research synthesis through to prototyping and iteration.
- You'll craft user centric designs, conduct user research, and apply design thinking principles.
- You'll collaborate with cross functional teams to deliver innovative and impactful product solutions for startups and scaleups.
What you will do
The daily life of a Product Designer at UntilNow looks something like this:
- Own product design work end to end. Partner with strategists, developers, and clients to define problems, explore solutions, validate concepts, and ship designs that move the needle for our clients.
- Use AI across the whole process: Claude and ChatGPT to frame problems, map edge cases and synthesise research, and tools like Claude Code, Cursor, Figma Make or v0 to build working prototypes you can put in front of users fast.
- Design AI powered features with care: conversational and agentic flows, uncertainty and error states, human in the loop controls, and the trust signals that make AI usable.
- Conduct and synthesise user research to inform design decisions, treating research as a velocity tool rather than a blocker.
- Translate validated concepts into Figma for full state coverage, design system alignment, and developer handoff.
- Bring the taste and judgement AI can't. Decide what's good, what's generic, and what needs another pass.
- Contribute to UntilNow's design culture by sharing prompts, patterns, templates, and learnings with the broader team.
- Collaborate directly with developers through the build process, staying involved through launch and iteration.
Your background
- 6+ years experience as a product designer working on complex, systems heavy products (B2B, SaaS, or fintech experience is a plus)
- Strong skills in visual design, interaction design, and creating user friendly interfaces
- Hands on experience prototyping with AI build tools, and the judgement to know when a prototype is good enough to learn from
- Experience designing AI features or products, or a clear point of view on how to do it well
- Proficiency in Figma as your primary design tool
- Proficient in user research and UX research to gather insights and inform decision making
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross functional teams and stakeholders
- Strong communication and presentation skills to articulate design ideas and rationale
- Good judgement on responsible AI use. You protect client data and IP, and are open about where AI shaped the work.
- Authorised to work in Australia, or set up to contract remotely
Nice to haves
- Comfort with basic front end concepts (components, states, responsive behaviour) and shipping small changes with Claude Code or Cursor
- Experience with design systems and extending shared component libraries
- Experience testing or evaluating AI outputs with real users
- Experience planning and running customer interviews or usability tests
- Portfolio that demonstrates strong product thinking, not just visual polish
When you apply
Alongside your portfolio, send us one short example of a workflow you've changed with AI: what you did before, what you do now, and one time the AI got it wrong and how you caught it. A few paragraphs is plenty, and it tells us more than a polished cover letter.
Salary and Benefits
We're a small studio looking to work in a better way. Our home is The Commons in Sydney CBD, a lovely modern space with a huge range of facilities and amenities, including weekly events like yoga, free beer, tea, coffee and breakfasts, end of trip facilities and much more.
For our team we also offer the following:
- Remote or hybrid. Work fully remote, or join us at The Commons as often as suits you.
- Early or late starts. We know some people work better in the mornings and others in the afternoons, so you have the option of starting an hour earlier or an hour later and finishing up accordingly.
- $500 to spend per year on anything related to professional improvement such as Figma courses, conferences, events, books and more.
- Team lunches every month at a variety of venues around Sydney CBD (open invitation when you're in town).
- Employee venture equity. Every full time employee at UntilNow receives equity in every venture we build. This equity proportion is scaled from a basic team level to an increased percentage if you are actively involved on the project.
