What goes in a brand guidelines document?
A typical brand guidelines document covers brand strategy and positioning, logo system and usage rules, colour palette, typography, photography and illustration style, iconography, tone of voice, and worked application examples across web, social, print, and product. Larger systems also include motion, sub brand architecture, and governance frameworks.
How long does a brand guidelines project take?
A focused brand book runs 4 to 6 weeks once the underlying identity is settled. Comprehensive guidelines covering strategy, voice, motion, and digital portal delivery typically run 8 to 12 weeks. Updates to existing guidelines can move faster depending on scope.
Do we get a static PDF or a digital portal?
Both options are on the table. A static PDF brand book works well for businesses with smaller teams, occasional reference needs, or partner sharing. Digital brand portals are better for teams that update assets regularly, manage multiple sub brands, or need version control and asset downloads at scale.
Can you update our existing brand guidelines?
Yes. We frequently refresh and extend existing guidelines, adding new components, evolving the system as the brand grows, or rebuilding the document around how your team actually uses it. We'll start with an audit to identify what's working and what's getting in the way.
What if our brand evolves after launch?
Brands always evolve. We design guidelines to flex without breaking, with structured ways to add new sub brands, new applications, and new contexts. Many clients work with us on retainer for quarterly or annual guideline updates as the business grows.
Do you build the guidelines after we already have a logo and identity?
Often, yes. We document existing identity systems, codify the rules, and build the guidelines around them. If gaps surface during the documentation process, like missing colours, undefined illustration style, or inconsistent typography, we can extend the system to close them.
Who needs to be involved from our side?
A core group of 2 to 3 stakeholders works best, usually a brand or marketing lead and someone close to how the brand gets applied day to day. For digital portal projects, including someone from ops or IT helps with platform decisions, access management, and asset handover.
Can you help us roll out the guidelines internally?
Yes. We run launch sessions for marketing, design, and exec teams, build internal training materials, and can support the first wave of brand application work after launch. Pairing guidelines with brand rollout services tends to produce the best adoption rates.
